Bud Redhead final version! Please test it...
Hi,
For all that are interested: "Bud Redhead - The Time Chase" is finally finished and released!
It's a side-scrolling jump'n'run platform game with a hand drawn graphics, 4 worlds (with 5 levels in each world) and it's localized to 7 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Swedish, Dutch and Croatian.
First, I would like to thank all of you who have participated with suggestions in the old testing thread. You were great!
However, this final version could also use some testing because many things have been changed since the Bud Test version from a year ago.
Please, if you encounter any problems write about it and also add a short description of your computer. (at least win version, graphics card, processor and speed)
Game should work on win9x/me/nt4/2k/xp
You can download the final version here:
http://space-ewe.swmirror.com/BudRedheadSetup.exe
Btw, what download rate do you get when downloading Bud?
I'm asking because I have 56k modem, but Bud once downloaded at only 2.5k/sec.
Thanks,
Bojan Urosevic

P.S.: If you like the game, please consider buying it!
If you cannot afford it then please at least spread the word about it...

The game is quite nice
The graphics are nice to look at, if a bit colorless compared to what a modern computer could do. Still very good for a jump and run, nice animations too.
Even though I got a big screen I prefered playing the game in 640x480, because I found things a bit too small in 800x600. You can see a little further, but that''s not really required.
One thing about switching resolutions: I''d find it better to allow the user to see what resolutions there are, by pressing left right, and apply them only if the user says so, instead of switching right away.
The sounds are ok (voices is cool ), the music is a bit repetitive, but still bearable.
Big plus on the localisation, quite impressive for a shareware game I had absolutely no problems with the controlls, they''re quite simple and easy to learn.
/download: average of 60-70 kB/s which is fine.

download was fine (broadband).
the game is a killer, it''s really cool. i hope i have time to play a bit more this weekend. i have not played any good jump&run since Xargon.
some things:
- the game shouldn''t present the language selection everytime i run it.
- jumping on the big mushrooms is sometimes a bit hard, it feels like i get stuck in it. but maybe i will get used to it.
- some trees in the background look a bit choppy when scrolling.
apart from that i like it, especially gfx/sfx. how long have you guys worked on this game?!

First, I forgot to write in my first post that there are 4 one-minute demos within the game. Just wait for some time at the main menu without pressing any key or moving mouse and Bud will go into autoplay demo mode.
To Wildfire:
Yes, in 640x480 things are bigger and the game seems to be a bit more dynamic.
About switching resolutions: well you are probably right - it would be nicer. However there are only two resolutions so I really didn''t think it was so important. Anyway, since you objected about it I will probably change it in some future release...
Thanks for trying it and thanks for your suggestion.
To Anonymous:
I''m glad that you like it!
About the things you have mentioned:
If you choose the same language for 3 consecutive times when starting the game it will be remembered. However, if you later change the language through the menus the language counter will be reset so you will again have to confirm it 3 times when starting.
If you jump on the mushroom and then continue bouncing and hold down the jump key Bud will jump higher and higher. If you jump on the mushroom and don''t hold the jump key Bud will eventually stop bouncing.
You are right about the trees - unfortunatelly, resolution is rather low and there is no subpixel precision, interpolation nor antialiasing so it is hard to make it look better.
We worked for a *veeeery* long time on this game: about 4 years.

This game is great! I really miss those old school platform games, and this is a very nice one.
It works fine on my computer, winxp, athlon xp 2600+ 512 mb ram geforce fx 5600.
The downloading went with +- 40kb per second with adsl, and that's good.
I really love this game and I'm thinking about buying it, only, I find it pretty expensive. I doesn't seem very big to me. I completed the demo in one hour and a half. Also, jazz jackrabbit 2, another platform game game, costs $5 or so. That's indead very cheap, but I find $20 pretty much.
However, I find it a great game. very well done.
