Texture Mapping

Does anybody knows how to turn files such as .jpg, .gif, .ppm, .tga, .bmp etc into a texture map?

I think you are confused. There is no ''texture file''. Any of the types can be texture mapped, you just need to know how to load them it into a LPDIRECTDRAWSURFACE7 type.
