Theres one slight problem... to play with the toys owned by the big boys you need lots and lots of $$$ !!
ACTUALLY there's a linux dev kit out now for PS2, and there are also quite a few little items to connect it to your PC. I lost the link, I'll edit this if I find it before someone else does. Although I can't say I really recommend console programming for, as you put it, a newbie game programmer, because it is, IMO, more difficult than DirectX...but w/e floats your boat, I'll get to the searching.

EDIT:
http://ps2dev.org/ is a nice place to start
http://playstation2-linux.com/ is also gewd if you get the linux dev kit, which I hear runs around $200 U.S., but don't quote me on that.

ok, thanks for your help.
now, what do you say I must do?.
1-continue learning with allegro under djgpp.
2-start learning directx and msvisualstudio.

I can''t find any article here about collision detection and physics, do you know any link?.

thanks, again!
take a look at the articles section..

Look about 6 inches straight up on you screen

In there there is loads of really good stuff.

continue learning directX. When you learn DirectX, all other Graphics API's will come easily. Sort of like when you learn your first programming or scripting language, it is easy to pick up others.

If you need some help with DirectX, I would suggest a book or two. There is always

"introduction to 3d game engine design using DirectX 9 and C#" by Lynn T. Harrison
and
"Managed DirectX 9 Graphics and Game programming"
by SAMS publishing.

Both those books can be found at amazon or barnes and nobles.

But really, the best way to learn is by trial and error! I would try to avoid asking noobish questions like the one you just posted, because some programmers (especially the game programmers) can be real dicks. I think it is becuase they are all nerds and don't have a social life, therefore have to get back at society by bashing those inspired to learn.

So if you need help: Check docs, help files, sample code, tutorials, and if you are really lucky, you will find an experienced person that can help you through things. But whenever possible, try to avoid posting basic questions.

"Theres one slight problem... to play with the toys owned by the big boys you need lots and lots of $$$ !! " from Psamty10. (this is one of the nerds getting back at society... )

I know this from experience!
