Need some help with obtaining MIDP 1.0.3
First, I''m a C/C++ programmer. I bought a book last week to learn J2ME programming. I know zip about it except for what is in the following book...
"J2ME Game Programming" by Martin Wells.
...and so far I have got to chapter 4: Installing the software. Now I have got the "JDK(Java Development Kit - j2se SDK)" installed successfully and have downloaded the J2ME wireless toolkit( but have not installed it yet...).
However, I''ve come to a stop with the bit on downloading the "MIDP 1.0.3" from Sun''s website. The JDK & Wireless Toolkit I could download straight away with out any hassle - but when I came to downloading the MIDP, I found that I must register with them. Normally I wouldn''t mind, but I''m not happy with the details they are asking from me.
On the CD-Rom that accompanies the book is a Nokia 3510i SDK. Can I just use this insted?
Any advice is most welcome.
You don''t need to download the "MIDP 1.0.3" (I''m guessing you mean the reference implementation). The Wireless toolkit comes with all the classes you need to compile against, and so does the Nokia 3510i SDK for that matter. The reference implementation is more for people that want to port MIPD to a new platform, not for people that want to develop MIDlets.

PS: The author of your book hangs around the j2megamer.com forums quite a lot. I think they even created a whole subforum for the book, so you can try contacting him directly there.

The Ender Wiggin books by Orson Scott Card. Excellent reading and Ender's Game would probably make a great video game.
