What would be the coolest game idea for an "intimate game" ? I used to be afraid of the dark, until i saw the light.

What do you mean? Intimate as in very personal? Or romantic? Or Virtual Valerie?

Like a very cool imitation of what we humans do whenever we can''t sleep and have someone we know or don''t know at our side

Wouldn't living in your own video game be cool?

Well, whatever it is, it''s gonna have to be multiplayer!!!

Ya know, despite all those bad cyberpunk books I''ve read say, I don''t think sex and comps will ever be combined in a meaningful way (at least not in America, where to show a breast is blasphemy but to show a bullet wound is A-OK).

Having said that, tho''... (the spirit of William Gibson is upon me)... you''ve got a range of options here running from the respectable to the pornographic. But you''d seriously need to think about why someone would play a "passion game." That would give you all the design direction you need.

Now, I think there is a market for "bar games" that run in this direction. An e-mail flirting game might be popular, especially if multimedia enabled.

I can remember reading about some Japanese games where the object of the game was to get another character to fall in love with you. I can''t remember much about them, or what they were called, but it sounded intriging.

But I think if it were really going to make you feel the same as when you''re in love in real life (and IMO it could never come close to matching real life) there would have to be very sofisticated gfx of the characters facial expressions and body language, etc. and it would have to be very non-linear so that it depends on what you do exactly what the response is.

This is probably either Tamagotchi Boyfriend or Harvest Moon (N64 remake just came out).

TheShadow: Although probably not on the level of physicality you were thinking of, I have for quite a while been trying to think of an interaction model that would let someone court an NPC with some degree of realism. Harvest Moon, for example is not at all realistic: you win a girlfriend by chosing her as a dance partner and giving her cake. What seems so far to be the best solution is to flat-out allow the player to "attempt seduction" or something as a move within the game, and prepare every NPC to react more-or-less agreeablysuch an attempt.

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

LOL!

Not true, SunandShadow!! The Japanese have _far_exceeded_ this primitive state. Have you ever played Strip Fighter II (TG16) or Strip Poker (NES?) In the former, you battled hideous amazon beasts for the privelage of between-round soft-core porno shots (ooh la la) while in the latter, well, I hope this is self-explanitory. You see? And a sure-fire "attempt seduction" button? *Thhhbbbt* These virtual ladies only love a real man who can best them 2-out-of-three in a "spinning Amazon breastmatch". heehee. . .you''ve got to check these out.

(you can find these, and a host of other fine semi-pornographic entertainment products available at your finer ROM outlets. of course, only if you own the original cartridge and/or arcade board, of course! )

Oh and one of the first Dreamcast titles has you playing as an "adult photogropher". Jeeez. I liked Dead or Alive as much as the next, but. . .?

And Harvest Moon isn''t realistic? Whenever I bake my baby a cake, she gives me a big smoochie, right on the lips.
