For the curious:

It's a counting problem. You start with a number and then count how many occurrences of a number there are, and write that down. For instance, if you start with 4:

4
one 4 = 14
one 1, one 4 = 1114
three 1's, one 4 = 3114
one 3, two 1's, and one 4 = 132114

and so on.
