The 7 Mb version is only useful for the end user (the players of your game).
For developing games you need to have the 128 Mb version (better start downloading...)

Ok, can anyone tell me how big is Direct X 7, because when I go to Microsoft's site it's about 7MB, and the other day I found this programming site and there was Direct X 7 and it was about 122MB.
Which one is the right one, and am I wasting my time downloading a 122MB file?
Hi !

Microsoft offers since a week or so a version of DirectX 7 SDK with just the Headers and Libs and Documentation !! So, there are 3 possibilities:

DirectX 7 Runtime : For the enduser. You will need it if you are developing for DirectX 7 and haven't installed that yet.

DirectX 7 SDK : either 7 Megs or 122 MB !! The 122 MB Version is the complete package with samples, binaries and so on. This is just for developers (see that SDK, that is Software Development Kit)

If you just want develop for DirectX 7 and have some experiance with DirectX 6 then download the 7 MB version. It has a very good documentation and a tutorial which should get you on the way although it does not have any samples.
