How bad is WinXP defragmenter? I'm wondering as I normally use DiskKeeper when I'm in the office :)

Haven't been defragmenting for a long time though. I always forget.

In fact, is there any good freeware for defragmenting? Diskeeper is not a freeware :(

It isn't "bad", it just doesn't do a full defragment when you run it, so you have to run it 5-50 times to get a fully defragged drive.

Last time i defragged, it took more than 6 hours, and I dont recall any miraculous speed improvement in hard disk accesses. I cant remember the last time Ive done it, but I certainly dont do it often, and I dont see a reason to.
I'm another person in the "was this supposed to improve something?" category. Everytime I defrag I don't notice any difference at all, and sometimes this has been on really, really, badly fragmented disks.
So I only do it a few times a year, usually when something reminds me about doing it (ie. a thread like this).
