Niphty, I''m sorry, but I really haven''t done anything. I even tried to start a peaceful conversation with ncsu, and he lashed out at me. I tried to stop this dumb battle, and the best thing to do is walk away.

I really urge you to find a single time in any post on this board that I have ever called an idea stupid. Or dumb. Or any other discouraging word. I resent the implication that I have.

And I haven''t attacked you either. I really don''t know when you decided to hate me, and I''m sorry that it is so. I had a great deal of respect from you, and I''ve never heard an idea of yours I didn''t like. I wonder where the miscommunication was...

You''re thinking, "Oh he''s just apologizing to gain ground." That''s nice. I''m not. I just don''t like being accused of things I stand against, like the diminishing of ideas.

SUNANDSHADOW- This doesn''t have anything to do with Writing. If I were in your position, as I once was, I would probably delete it or move it to the lounge. Thanks.

Yeah, this belongs in the lounge... Or help wanted (Everyone always needs a little help ). Anyway...

Like I said before, LF never just stated that an idea was crap. If he said that it wouldn''t work or that it was inconsistent or anything then there was always a reason for it. That is the difference with LF from others. If there is ever going to be criticism then it needs to be constructive with reason. I think that I learned to do this from LF and as such I only post if I have something relevant to say and something that has body. If I just posted ''That was crap'' then I would deserve such a schalacking... LF didn''t ever say anything like that, and I think that he deserves some respect. Even some who don''t agree with his opinions (Wav) still respect him. This wouldn''t be so if he just attacked people without justification.

I think that we can all learn from LF in that whatever you don''t believe in, whatever ideas seem to be misplaced and wrong, state why you think so and give alternatives. This is what would allow us all to grow and allow the ideas to grow. I think that this would be a benefit to GDNet and the game community in general.

Try and show a little respect for those that justly deserve it. You don''t have to agree with everyones ideas, but don''t get angry because somebody doesn''t agree with you... I know LF didn''t (much, anyway ).

That is yet another sufficient rant at an end

Yes, I believe that people often mistake LF''s attribute of being opinionated with him being rude. There''s a big difference.

Alright guys. I know pretty certainly who likes/hates/could care less about me. I'm really more interested in what Niphty has to say, because I didn't lie. We DID used to get along, and I want to know when his mind changed. So if you don't have any explainations, I'd like to hear from just the people with beef. Thanks.

Niphty, I'm having a really bad day. In some part you contributed to that day. So now, rather than making an attempt at civility, I'm just going to be honest and hope this post is moved to the Lounge soon:

Unless there's some huge misunderstanding here (which I really would like to believe), you have arbitrarily decided to lash out against me when once you gave me your respect. That is something I can't forgive (unless of course, this is some misunderstanding).

You've never provided me with any real evidence of why you don't like me, and when you have I have NO CLUE what you are referring to. You accuse me of doing things that I make a concious effort not to do, and things you frequently do yourself by the very nature of the posts in which you accuse them. On the more subjective side, I think you are being a liar and a jackass, possibly just to prove your own self-centric philosophies.

I really liked your ideas, your spirit, and yes, even your personality until you decided to sour on me. Why you accuse me of "Insulting people who have ideas I disagree with..." I cannot even begin to comprehend. If there are two people on this board with whom I disagree with most on any issue, it's Wavinator and Kylotan. I consider them both great friends, simply because I disagree with them, and they have PROVEN me wrong on several occasions.

You and your accusations have contributed largely to my day SUCKING this much, which is why I'm happy to write this all out for you. There's no one I hate more than someone who betrays a friend, but since you've made no effort to explain WHY EXACTLY you now feel this way about someone you once called a friend, I'll have to assume this is an outright betrayal.

My sentiments exactly. I knew I should have been reading this thread. Anyway, listen up all: The FAQ says avoid offensive language and try to be a constructive part of this community. Niphty and Landfish, I am editing your posts to remove the more offensive remarks. In future please restrain yourselves or fight privately. This forum exists so that we can exchange ideas about what is, for most of us, a hobby. If you really care enough to get this upset about who had what opinion of whose idea, then you need to get a life.

So smile and chill out.

No, this has nothing to do with writing. What one can see through the flame, however, does have to do with how one ought to participate in a cooperative criticism group. There are groups on usenet where the smallest lack of IMHOs and smileys will get you flamed for being mean. There are groups like this board where we toss expletives around without too much fear of offending anybody. There are cooperative criticizm groups where "If you can''t say anything nice, don''t say anything at all" is enforced violently, and there are cooperative criticism groups where "Trial by fire" and "Improvement by evisceration" are standard practice. I personally would be ashamed if people posting on my group were too afraid of offending to speak their opinions. The purpose of this group is to help each other improve, not to pat and coddle people under stress with fragile self-esteems. (I''m not meaning anyone in particular.) What we need here is civility, respect for each other, a dash of kindness, and some on-topic threads so people aren''t so bored they resort to flaming each other.

Why the hell do you think I always have so many smilies in my post... Except my last one that is . The last one I was still in shock.. I hardly ever fail to use the COOL smiley as my msg icon... I never though I would see LF lash out and be abusive and not be constructively criticising. Although I believe that he had some right to be upset, I don''t think that he should have acted that way. For what its worth you have dropped in my opinion of you LF, though I still deem your posts worthy of a read. Try and restrain yourself before you do such again, as others may really use it as an excuse against you.

Anyway... I think this thread does belong here, as here is where the people who constructively add should be keeping updated. In the lounge it would just be flamed and trolled... And I think everybody would just ignore it then anyway. At least at the moment it is having a reasonably (except for the last couple of posts) constructive discussion... Let us try and continue that...

I figured if that''s the kind of behavior everyone wants from me, I might as well give it to them. And on top of that, I''m getting really sick of being civil to people who make these accusations. Can you blame me? Yes, of course. Do I care any more? Absolutely not.

Well, I can''t really blame you, LF. That was obviously a lot of anger that has been held back for a while being released. Yes, it didn''t belong on public forums, but it is somewhat understandable.

Can we not drop it and get back to speaking of why all current games suck? (j/k)

Landfish, i started to hate you when you included "everyone" in your post on how we''re ALL losers and we''ve ALL been in the fetal position when in a fight. And when i said that was BS, and whatnot, all your little groupies started attacking me like i was against you and like i was anyother person who hated you for no reason. I HATE to be included in things of which i am no part when i have NOTHING to do with that group, or very little even. I don''t even like the fact that you would assume EVERYONE is that way! Even if I was, i would be mad at you for those who wouldn''t be willing to speak up about it! And you STILL haven''t appologised for that!
And as i''ve stated.. you''ve always said what''s wrong with something without every saying what is right in any way. That''s why i left in the first place. you started a war! There were those against you and those for you. The ones for you would blast those against you in the same mannor which they blasted you. I mean, look at this post.. you call for anyone with real "beef" to speak up.. and then you have jhky speaking up like he''s the boss or something telling us what to do with our business! That''s a moderator''s job, don''t try to do it unless you ARE the moderator.. cause they''re the only one with right to pass judgement like that here! I''m sure you can agree on that, Landfish. And then we''ve got.. Dwarfsoft, one of your groupies, using not-nice language and trying to process what happened.. even though it didn''t warrent a post. I mean, come on Dwarf.. how does that pertain to the discussion in ANY way? Sounds more like he''s asking for help to me.. shouldn''t that be on the Help wanted board?
Anyways.. i never said i wanted you to be a potty-mouth, i certainly never have lost my professionalism like that on here! And sunandshadow.. let me know if you even had to remove anything from my post.. cause while i try to argue.. i try to argue without unnessicary language.. thanks.

Anyways, sorry to give you a bad hair day, Landfish. You shouldn''t stress so much about other people. Perhaps that''s what i''m supposed to be teaching you now, eh?

Damn, since when did anything get personally attacked towards me... I don''t think I ever said anything to deserve being attacked, I just stated the truth and asked questions. If you have a problem with that then I will take it up with you on Email.

I must say that I have never been in the fetal possition when in a fight... I have only had 3 fights in my life, and I won all three... Why I was talking about the shock is that LF was being exactly like everybody else who flames him... You are an exception Niphty, as you tend to have reason for what you say. When reason is dropped, everything is lost in the heat of the moment.

As for being LF''s ''Groupie''.. Fine! If you think that way then I don''t care, and I am not one to state what your oppinions should be, because I am a pro choice person. I prefer to think of myself as an activist for the betterment of games in general. That is why I support LF. He has some ideas, they may suck, could be whacky.. In the end he does what he does for the betterment of games... If you did the same then I would back you any day.

I don''t really see this thread going anywhere.. but I really hope that people on this site can just get along. Damn, put your issues behind you and get on with making cool games... NUFF SAID!

*Waits for thread to close*

Wow. You''re being pretty ridiculous, Niphty.

When I said that about being in a fetal position, I specifically used the term "some of us", meaning that was what had happened to me. I can''t be held responsible for how you chose to interpret it, I thought it was made clear.

I was looking for a response from you, in particular. I want to hear a dozen people say "Landfish is cool... " about as much as you do; not at all.

I''m getting really sick of your lies. It''s clear to anyone that I have suggested many ideas in a lot of threads. Perhaps you chose to ignore them, but please, if you''re going to accuse me of something, make it something true.

First off, dwarf.. you got in the middle of a catfight.. your own fault for doing so

Secondly, jhky, so if i''m on staff at.. say.. microsoft, i have the ability to go in and moderate their webboards, even if my job is to clean the toilets? I said you''re acting like the "boss" because you had that staff thing next to your name. Being on staff doesn''t mean you''re a moderator, and it doesn''t mean you have power to do anything at all. Just making a point of your stupidity and lack of reason in a landfishian way to prove a point.

As for you, fish, i see one person speaking up for you.. and a few others suggesting you once had a good idea or two. I don''t in any way see how that means you''ve actually done some good ideas.. anywhere. It''s clear to anyone.. yet many say that it''s not clear. Kinda sounds like the florida butterfly ballots now, doesn''t it? You''ve had good ideas before.. but your constant bashing of people is what i hate. You only half-explain yourself, and you leave people feeling like a they do when a commercial is on at the climax of a good movie, and they know it doesn''t hafta be like that ;p

Yeah, I firgured that you said that out of the heat of the moment. Dwarf comes up w/ some damned fine, original ideas as do many others including LF (but I don''t want to get into that again)

Ok, sorry sunandshadow but I have to make this clear to everyone.

Not ONLY am I staff, and have moderator POWERS, I ALSO am a moderator for everything by default in addition to the designated moderators. So excuse me if I'm acting like I am a moderator for this board, because I AM.

And if you, Niphty, in your little world think that I am NOT a moderator here, then I won't rid you of your delusions. But you will still feel the effects of my NON-EXISTENT status as moderator.

Now, I will kindly ignore your comment about my supposed "stupidity".

Let me make something completely clear.

GameDev.net is owned by five people: me, Kevin Hawkins, Ernest "TANSTAAFL" Pazera, Mike Tanczos, and John Munsch. This site is here because we have spent thousands of hours creating it. We have been involved in game development sites for a LONG time, and have guided this site according to what we think works well based on our extensive experience.

The five of us have the title GDNet Staff next to our names. Since we own the site, you'd damn well better believe we reserve the right to edit anything that is posted here that we think does not belong on our site. jhky is one of two people to whom we have extended staff privileges to, even though she is not an owner. She has those privileges because she has been helping us extensively behind the scenes, but more importantly, because she is an intelligent, talented member of the community who shares our vision of what the site will be.

In other words, being on staff DOES mean she's a moderator, and it DOES mean she has power to do anything at all (because we trust her not to abuse it).

I've purposely stayed out of these discussions because I don't think it's my place to take a side (although I wholeheartedly agree that personal attacks do NOT belong here, and I support any action to remove them). However, I will not tolerate any attacks against a member of the staff. Show some respect.
