Picking second place was much harder, but we have decided that extralongpants is #2 and nagromo is #3.My library of games is available here
. Endurion can PM me with his three picks and nagromo can PM me with his one. Extralongpants should PM me with his paypal account so that I can send him the cash for the 3 months of GDNet+ membership.
Finally, one of the judges had a few comments. My comments were mostly the same, just much shorter, so there isn't any need to include them.
Endurion ('Arm Pit Barber'):
A great little game, and a good use of the theme. I liked the good control system, and the ASCII graphics were extremely well done for the game type. The sound effects were a valuable addition, and the little ASCII face to show the customer's expression was a nice touch. The only main problem was that it is hard to figure out how to play and the correct use of the razor (possibly because I use an electric shaver ;)), although once I "got it" I was able to make it through the game, although it was still very challenging and suprisingly entertaining. A high score table would be nice addition.
Overall, very impressive!
extralongpants ('Pit Stop Mechanic'):
I thought the concept was fine, and the graphical use of the ASCII was reasonable. Unfornuately I had some trouble with the fitting the tyres to the car; it wasn't intuitive about where to place them and I frequently had trouble replacing the tyres of the right. Often a tyre would be dropped and the poor little mechanic couldn't pick it up again. I am also not sure if there was a timer working; I was not sure what the little flashing light at the bottom of the screen was for. There was also the problem that if you hold down a direction button when fitting the last tyre then the instruction screen will be skipped. The main problem though was that as it stands the game is a bit dull; if you were able to put in a few more features it might have been a bit more exciting.
Not a bad attempt by any means, although it would have been more fun with more challenge in the game, and the control issues meant I had to dock half a star.
nagromo ('The Prison Pit'):
This game reminded me of the classic ASCII games I used to play; a smiley face nagivating through a treacherous maze of symbols. I thought the general concept for the game was okay, and the graphics were fine (that's what most ASCII games are like!), although the game was extremely similar to the game you submitted to the previous 3H contest ("The Stars"). It was a pity though that you could not finish the enemy movement in the time limit though. However, even in the version that has active enemies the game is still pretty easy.
Not too bad a game though!
Okay, the judging is complete (Finally!). Far and away, Endurion is the winner for this contest. He had the most original concept and the most complete gameplay. Very nice, I congratulate you.
