I just played it then. The dialogue is well done and all the effects like the grass being trodden on and shot, the light on the guy's face as he fires his gun, etc. I agree with everyone about the atmosphere, as well. I think the darkness and silence suits the subject matter well.

Unless there is some deeper meaning, I'm pretty sure I understood all of the plot, except one thing... Why was Eddie saying to Mike that it was like the old days? Was it just Eddie being derranged? Because I thought that Mike was the soldier that saw Eddie in the final scene? I also felt killing Eddie was too easy; he didn't put up much (if any) of a fight for a war veteran.

It would be cool if the relationship between Eddie and Mike went into greater detail so that killing him would have been more satisfying - not that killing Eddie after what he did wasn't satisfying already, but if Mike's plot was less uneventful and drawn out (it was quite a long chase), I think it would add heaps of extra playing time to the game. The premise behind the game is clever, and I think you could have milked it more and the game would be considering longer.

One minor problem that I felt the game had was the abrupt level transitions; there is a fade in to the next level/scene but not a fade out from the one you're currently in and it feels a bit unnatural. That was the only problem I think the game had, other than that it's very well done.

But you can see why people would pass judgment without playing it, right? I watched the youtube video before I played it and hence I formed my opinion after seeing that, and so will a lot of other people.

! WARNING, SPOILER BELOW !

My understanding is that Eddie is Mike. Notice how Eddie brought the girl to Mike's apartment. It was 'like old times', despite the fact that it was just Eddie in the War. Note how when you shoot Eddie as Mike, Mike dies (or at least, he did for me). Note that when Eddie dies in the War, the sprite of Mike is shown. Notice that after playing as Mike, a scene is shown where the girl gets into Eddie's cab. Eddie and Mike are one in the same ... I think.

That would make a lot of sense, because I never saw those scenes, although I did notice that Mike dies when I shot Eddie.

When the girl comes out with the gun an attempts to shoot Eddie, I shot her (thought she was a soldier of the nation they were fighting :s) and, as it was obviously the only thing left to do, did what Eddie apparently does best. It went black while he was doing it, and if I stopped pressing z (or x - can't remember) it faded back in and I was left with nothing to do. After walking around a bit and shooting stuff trying to figure out what to do, I went back to the girl and did it until a white screen came up. At this point I had the sound turned down for obvious reasons, but the screen went white and then the soldier came along and said something, and then it went back to the main menu. I don't remember Eddie ever dying.

As for the girl getting into Eddie's cab.. once I shot Mike, they both died and it faded out to the menu.

Did this happen to anyone else or did I miss something? :s

SOME SPOILERS:

-Mike draws his pistol to chase eddie "havent used my pistol since the war"
-Mike has reflections of eddie, and eddie of mikey, check the interior windows
-Who does that soilder look like in the chopper next to eddie on the gun, and the one after the ending...
-All the dialog at the end of detriot if you dont shoot eddie, how eddie wants there relationship to co-exsist like it did some years before the events of detriot.
-If you shoot Eddie, you both suffer a blow to the head and collapse.
-If you shoot emily at the end of detroit, after the lighting your sprite is eddie.
-The detriot ending...
-And the truckton of minor dialog stuff and visual glitches and whatever else I missed...

Mike and Eddie are the same person, they represent the inner good and evil in the rapist, thats why every evil act within the game is done as eddie, and every achievable good act as michael.
I never was good at picking up stuff in movies so I'm not surprised I failed completely at getting this one haha. I'll play it again and see all the stuff I missed.

Wow the ending is really surprising
