Hi,

I would like to know if we need to understand how to create custom effects right now, as explained in the tutorials 2-4, because I don't understand it very well, and I see that in the book are treated much later.

I'd like to know this too.

I think I've got a handle on all the other concepts and code thus far(well, barely), but the effect.fx file is gibberish to me.

Do we need to learn some HLSL on the side, or will we get some basics covered in later weeks?

That stuff comes later in the book, as the author also mentions a couple of times in the text.
