I dunno if this just me, but i've been going through samples (For DirectX 11)
I have an AMD 5850 card that runs fine......but for some reason some of the samples (especially when I get REALLY close to an object) makes my video card like......."Squeal" if that makes any sense?
First of all? WTF?

If not, you've got a cheap motherboard that's not correctly shielded it's audio components from interference. My work PC gets an audio squeal when the GPU fan spins up, or when I scroll the mouse-wheel!

Well I turned off my speakers and headphones aren't plugged in. it sounds like it's coming from the GPU......but when I play games it doesn't do this?

could be the fan... just for a test, go into your catalyst control and turn off the fan (ati overdrive), then try to get it to happen again... aslong as you're not running anything too intensive for more than 10-20 minutes you shouldn't even get above 70c degrees, I've got two 5850's and they never get above 60c with 30% fan. But I know back when I had my 8800gt, it made some strange noises, and a week later burned out before i realized the fan died on it.

I'm pretty sure this is normal, I get the same thing when I render at very high framerates (500+). Its just electrical noise from the board's power supply.
If you cap your framerate via vsync or just putting some sleep in the render loop, does the noise go away?

This high pitched noise is generated by a form of parasitic oscillation of the inductive coils in the voltage regulator circuits, especially if high power is drawn from them. It's completely harmless.

Like I said I've got two 5850's, and have never heard this before.... even if it is normal I would try to get a replacement from the manufacture. I never have vsync enable, unless a game has noticeable tearing. My own programs run at over 2000 fps, and still dont get this. Mine are HIS 5850's, if that matters, not OC'd and I even run them at a constant 80% fan, just to drop a couple degrees off my cpu.
What Yann said, had these on my motherboard as well. I wouldn't call it harmless though, mechanical vibration of components can lead to premature failure.
