Jobs wasn't a part of the company when they started making laptops o.O
I may have had my philosophical differences with the guy, but the fact remains he did some impressive stuff. I poured out a Guinness and did some Arduino hacking last night in his honor.
Also, let's keep the who-invented-what bickering out of this particular thread, shall we? If you want to argue over whose inventor manhood is biggest, go do it somewhere else. Let's keep this one respectful.

I'll always respect him for enabling others to do what they did; but as has been said, there were many others who influenced the industry who never had much praise raised after their demise. What I do however find astounding is the tale of Steve Jobs, both the failures and successes, and how he -- in lack of a better term -- 'came to power'.
That commencement address is an excellent and very inspirational speech that makes me wonder what would have been his next plan for the future, had he been given the chance to fulfill it...

Pirates of silicon valley was a pretty cool movie on how microsoft and apple were started. Goes all the way back to when Jobs and Gates dropped out of their respective universities. Might be worth a watch, as it covers a lot of the really interesting parts of his life. I can't remember if the movie covers him getting kicked out/welcomed back to apple though.
Steve Jobs, though I never met him, somehow managed to affect me in ways I did not realize until recently. He was a fantastic speaker, had a great sense of humor, and all around was an awesome guy. I was really hoping to meet him one day. Maybe I still will.
