Alright, say if I wanted to use a map to build a texture for a sphere (most likely to get a texture for Earth or some other planet). Which map projection (out of the 400 or so that are in use today) would give me the best basis for a sphere texture. I'm thinking that a cone-based, equidistant projection would work (but that's only my thoughts, I'm not sure). Any help? Edited by - joeG on 1/8/00 2:23:01 PM Edited by - joeG on 1/8/00 2:24:23 PM

I believe that there is an icosohedral world map on the web somewhere that would map well to a sphere.
