Team name:

No team name as of yet

Project name:

No projects currently

Brief description:

Basically, What I want to do is to find like minded people that are at around the same skill level as me and basically build an idea from scratch. It will be purely for enhancing our level of programming skills and to learn new things. And possibly move on to bigger and better things.

Target aim:

I plan to create a team of hobbyist programmers that are trying to get better and be able to break into the industry. It is purely an "on the side" type of deal, we have a meeting on skype for example, and just throw around some ideas of some game we would like to create. And just start doing it. No pressure, no anything, Just working in a team and learning. There is no problem with going inactive for a couple moths or whatever, That is the benefit here. We are not necessarily trying to complete a project!

Compensation:

Just experience I suppose. But who knows, perhaps in the future we get to know each other very well and end up creating an awesome game!

Technology:

The languages I currently have used are Java,c++,c#. Again, it does not really matter about the technology though, if you are a new-ish games programmer and want to try working in a team with no strings then I think this is for you.

Talent needed:

Anyone interested in programming really. Just remember though, Don't expect that you will see anything you submit in a game anytime soon! You are welcome to just come and throw ideas about.

NOTE: Only programmers, no "designers" because ideas can get out of control.

Team structure:

Cairn - Me (Programmer)

Izzy (Spriter)

Website:

Don't have a website. Will probably just use an IRC client or Skype to chat.

Contacts:

my Skype name: cairn.overturf
email: cairnc@gmail.com

Izzy's Skype name: izzy_the_hedgehog

I would normally be online after 3 o clock.

Previous Work by Team:

None

Additional Info:

My time zone is
UTC-7/Mountain Time (US)
so just take that into consideration.

Feedback:

ANY

And what is the plan generally? Is there currently a concept? Which engine / libraries will you be using? etc.

From reading that thread. It seems that his team never got off the ground.

Yeah nothing ever happened with that team and several people requested something similar, So that's what this is.

What I don't understand is why don't people gain experience with teams that have actually formed and started making a game? You then know that that motivation isn't going to go.

It's because not everyone shares the vision currently on the table...just because you have a project going doesn't mean everyone is into it. YOU need to realise that before you post

I would be quite interested in joining, however I am not exactly what you would call a beginner. However I still feel I have a lot to learn, and a lot that I could do to help this beginner team be successful. I have several years of programming experience, specifically with game programming. My home language is Java but I am well versed with several other languages (C++, C#, LUA etc..). I have tackled several different projects alone, I've made my own physics engines, 2d games 3d games, MMO prototypes, server and client programming, just about anything you could think of. I have a very good grasp on the feasibility of ideas and concepts and would like to join the team to continue my own learning but also help with decision making and generally just collaborate with others and help some people get deeper into programming. As an example. I have completed several projects using the Jmonkey engine (Java) and netBeans (also other big hitters like XNA and C++ (boost) + ogre3d) and would be more than willing to help work leisurely on a concept of the teams choice and assist others with becoming familiar with these environments and really get the ball rolling. In addition to helping getting the team started on a project I would also program for the project as well and guide others along the way. I ultimately would like to lend my experience to you guys so there will be as many open doors as possible for the team. I've faced all the big challenges like getting into multiplayer development, and physics integration and I feel like I would allow you guys to have access to these possibilities from the begging and learn how to use them much faster. Anyways, sorry for the rant, just wanted to explain my interests, I hope to hear from you. Cheers.
