I have to say stories like this absolutely terrify me. Completely random violent killings. The one that happened on the greyhound bus in Canada is another similar one. Scares the poop outa me.

That said, the Westboro Church is a bunch of idiots. I have to imagine there must be some way to take legal action against them for harassment or libel/defamation or something.

I agree. Stories about random killings with little to no motive are scary. But as your example shows, they can happen anywhere, not just Virginia Tech like the American media on the eastern coast would like to believe.

It's hard to imagine ANY scenario where it'd be appropriate to protest a funeral.

I would like to protest my own funeral...
