problems making opengl 3dfx fullscreen window

i am trying to make a program that will use 3dfxvgl.dll to draw a triangle. the program runs fine on the normal unaccelerated opengl32.dll, but when I switch over to the minigl or 3dfx ICD it has problems. after the 3dfx logo has spun around it reverts back to the white screen with a mouse cursor and is back in normal windows. if I click the mouse on the white window it goes into the 3dfx screen and I can then see the triangle I have drawn. what I want to know is why my program doesn''t stay in 3dfx mode the whole way?
