Is there a way to use 3ds-models with OpenGL, like the x-converter in D3D but for OGL?

No there is not. OGL does not have it''s own format. What you have to do is read the file into memmory yourself and then display it.

http://www.gametutorials.com has Tutorials on ASE, OBJ and 3DS file formats.
