Can a single binary difference patch file from bsdiff.exe be used to patch from any version to a specific version, or only from a specific version to another specific version?

This depends entirely on what you're trying to "patch". Which you didnt' specify, but in general: A binary patch can only patch the exact same version.

In time the project grows, the ignorance of its devs it shows, with many a convoluted function, it plunges into deep compunction, the price of failure is high, Washu's mirth is nigh.

I'm patching an executable. It's not necessarily a game, but rather a 3rd party tool for one. Do you happen to know if a running program can patch itself this way, or by deleting and replacing itself?
