I use a company-provided Lenovo T420s at work (i7-2640M @ 2.8GHz, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Nvidia NVS 4200M). I use it almost exclusively while docked, where I've got two additional 1920x1200 monitors. It easily beats the desktop I had at work previously.

As for looks, Lenovos are more like main battle tanks than shiny sportscars.

Uses the Intel integrated 4000 card when just surfing around, but when I need it to it switches to the discrete graphics card). When using the Integrated card it runs quiet and cool. Don't even know it is on most of the time. I hardly ever hear the fan unless I am doing something processor extensive. If I do play a graphics extensive game the fan does get pretty loud, but I like how the vent is off to the left side. You can feel it blow the hot air out of the left side instead of like on other laptops it just goes to the bottom of the laptop. I played Skyrim the other day with Ultra High settings for a couple hours straight and I never did feel like it was going to overheat.

That one at the link says it has a GTX 650m, though the one I bought off NewEgg has a GTX 660m

That most likely depends on where you live and how you define disaster.
At most we get one outage every 2 years here. (Southeastern Sweden)

I have this and it's awesome. Only mistake I made was blindly upgrading to Win 8 when I saw the grace period was active - now I have driver compatibility issues and can't seem to be able to get rid of them.

Outages aren't the big problem - it is dirty electricity / spikes etc. that corrupt your data
It isn't always obvious this has happened at the time ... you find out months later by which time you have less chance to recover - or you may even have backups of bad data
These can be caused by a neighbour using power tools for example ...
Even living in Sweden can't protect you from that :-)
If your data is valuable never plug your PC directly into the mains.
Also UPS for 750W or 1000W PC are not cheap ...
