I want two objects to move together as one entity, such as the head and the body (they are modelled separately)
Now I want to stitch them together as one. Do I use connect or attach? I have chosen and saved 2 loops for each "object"
I am going to rig it. So I must do that as one.
Thanks
Jack

Select one of them (preferably the main one, which would be the 'body'), and use edit poly's Attach command, selecting the head.
This will make the head an 'element' of the body (a collection of polygons completely disconnected from the rest).

So select the body (which now contains the head as part of its geometry), change to 'Element' sub-object mode, select the head, position it like you want and then start working on welding the head's vertices to the body's - for this you can use Bridge, Target Weld and any other of 'edit poly's' operations; feel free :)

Sorry I want to add a question to this thread
How do you discard textures from a scene that the artist didn't supply?
Thanks
Jack

I mean the texture mapping, the bitmaps not the colors

A material uses maps. Maps 'generate' visual content and provide this content to the material slot they're assigned to.
One kind of map is the BitmapTexture, which generates visual content based on an image file (BMP, JPG, TGA etc.).

If you want to remove a BitmapTexture map from a material, you open your Material's main rollout, click the Diffuse map button (or similar, in case you have some sort of custom plugin material) and select NONE from the list. This will remove whatever BitmapTexture map was assigned to that material's slot.
