Combined company offers new creative choice for cutting-edge game development

London, 25th September 2012 – Leading visual effects software developer, The Foundry, today announced a merger with Luxology in a move that will expand the creative possibilities for game developers seeking to leverage high-end VFX and 3D software in their pipelines.

The Foundry brings a stable of award-winning 2D and 3D VFX software - including the industry standard compositor NUKE, and MARI, a 3D painting solution - to the table. Luxology offers its flagship product, modo®, which is a favourite of thousands of artists and designers worldwide. Both product lines have been heavily production-tested and are built with a strong emphasis on providing artist-friendly workflows.

Bill Collis, CEO of The Foundry comments:
“We were impressed by modo's strong roots in the games market and by Luxology’s focus on creating artist-friendly, highly advanced technologies. The Foundry’s product portfolio is already used by leading games developers such as Blizzard and LucasArts. The Foundry and Luxology's products are highly complementary, and we both like our products to be open and flexible, so the customers can choose how they like to work. In the short term we will be continuing to develop the interaction between our products, which will be of immediate benefit to all of our customers. We can’t wait to see what our combined experience and knowledge will allow us to build in the long term.”

Brad Peebler, President of Luxology comments:
“The Foundry has an impressive pedigree in the visual effects industry, where its products and attention to customers are second to none. Film production and game development have long been converging in terms of media, quality and deliverables. Joining forces with The Foundry will allow us to accelerate the development of modo as the preferred tool for the production of game assets and ultimately change the landscape for game developers everywhere.”

Kim Libreri, VFX Supervisor on Star Wars 1313 comments:
“Having the Foundry and Luxology teams under one roof is really great news for the entertainment industry. Games, film and TV facilities are going to really benefit from the synergies this merger is going to create. Our combined industries have been going through great changes over the last few years and we are now under incredible pressure to create amazing content on ever-compressing schedules. Interactive artist feedback and intuitive WYSYWG content creation has been an important part of each company's tools but we have never seen an entire pipeline that maintains this philosophy throughout. Now the two companies are one, I think we can look forward to a future suite of tools that value creativity above everything else."
