Hey devs,
I am a WP7 developer and I don't know what to buy.
I don't have enough money to buy both so I have to choose between Surface and WP8 since they both share the same core.

What would you buy? Should i buy the surface and test the apps on my old WP7 or even at the surface?

If you want to develop for both I'd get a phone since it probably has worse performance. Then you can catch bottlenecks you probably wouldn't notice on Surface/other W8 pc.

Get the surface! You can probably get a free Windows 8 phone from a developer evangelist in your area (if you commit to building and publishing an app), or from various competitions which tend to give them out as prizes.

whats a developer evangelist?
the problem is, that my apps aren´t published to the public app store. I make apps for companies. So I don´t know if I would be a "valid" developer in Microsofts point of view.

Meet your local Microsoft evangelist

Right, you would have to commit to building and releasing a public app to get a phone. That's how I got my Samsung Galaxy S last year.

and what do I have to tell them to get a phone?

I think they will want to hear an idea for a public app

Yes. I told them I would build an app, and sent them a video of a work in progress. Then the phone was mailed to me.

I´m actually working on a city directory app for university students wich shows "cool" spots in their near area. But thats my only public app.
I hope I get a phone too. That would allow me to develop my company-restricted apps for WP8.
