How to load a big map on DirectX

Hello everybody!
I have problem with map in game. I don't now, with a huge map (Red alert or Age of Age of empires) how can they load on screen and manage them. And we can create a isometric map with what software?

Are you talking about 2D? 3D?
I assume 2D:

  1. Load them however you want. DirectX is for rendering, and has no relationship to the kind of map files you will create and load.
  2. For rendering, you are talking about “culling”. Put them into 16×16 chunks and draw only the chunks that are actually on the screen. Google keyword: Frustum Culling.
