Hi, what is typical number of mipmaps? (including base level)

That depends on the size of the bitmap. If the size is 256x256, then you would typically get bitmaps for 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2, and 1 pixels.

log2(256) + 1 = 8 + 1 = 9
