Is real time rendering book, third edition, still good?

Hi, I was interested in buying this book(real time rendering, third edition) and I saw a lot of positive feedback on it bot I have some doubts about it. The book is from 2008, a bit old maybe, so my question is: it's still a valid book? I was also wondering if they plan to make a 4th version of it. In case this book it's too old, there are other good alternatives to it that you may suggest?

Thanks.

Definitely still the best real time graphics book out there IMO. I haven't heard anything about a 4th ed yet but 3rd is definitely worth buying though.

thanks for answering

The kind of book that RTR is doesn't really become out of date in the same sense that many programming books do. Its about the principles underpinning popular, practical techniques, and while new techniques are discovered and a few others might fall out of popular use, the content never really spoils. Some Soup-de-jour style books -- those about flash-in-the-pan technologies or young, fast-moving frameworks -- certainly do spoil, and sometimes quickly enough to make your head spin, but the good CS books are effectively timeless. In general, I don't hold off getting a good older book unless the new edition is inbound (and has a date), and is known to cover significant new material.

Just buy it, you won't regret it.
