Suggestion: gamedev jam?

Considering this is a site dedicated to game development, i'm surprised i never see dev contests, or jams. Something like a 72 hour gamejam would be pretty awesome to participate in with gamedev.

I know a physical location might not be possible, but if done right, a page dedicated to diffrent team livestreams/universal chats could make things quite interesting for alot of the devs to tune in and watch, particularly those in the begginners section.

Anywho, just an idea, maybe i'm the only one that would like to see this happen.

We've had smallish community-based contests before, and a couple of larger contests, but there hasn't been anything of the sort for a while.

We'd really love to have more contests, but we really want to make sure we can do it properly before we commit ourselves to another contest -- we'll support any community-based efforts though!

The gamedev moderators might be able to see if a physical location is possible (for members who registered their living country).

Sounds like a cool idea to me

i'm not saying it's out of the question, just unlikely considering that this board has members from pretty much every corner of the globe.

@jbadams, i know that we might be able to construct our own community one, but i think it'd get a bit more participation if it were more heavily backed by gamedev.

although, perhaps it's just me, since not much support seems to have found it's way here.

We're definitely interested in running more contests and community events, and we'll get to it eventually, but given the availability of these things elsewhere (Ludum Dare, PyWeek, #onegameamonth, many others) it's a bit lower on our priority list than some other stuff that will really help out the site and that a lot of people have been asking for.

It's definitely something we do want to do in future though, and hopefully sooner rather than later. smile.png
