Hello,

Every once in several months, in my reputation board an item will appear with no description though others always have a description. There is the amount of reputation awarded (in this case today it was +3), the date, and time, but no description.  With no description then there is also no link to the thread of the reputation credited to me - just an empty box.  There is no compatibility button appearing and all else seems to function and appear perfectly well.

What causes this error?

It's when people upvote journal entries, journal comments, etc.. basically everything that isn't a forum post or an article. It seems those haven't yet been completely integrated into the new rep system.

The slowsort algorithm is a perfect illustration of the multiply and surrender paradigm, which is perhaps the single most important paradigm in the development of reluctant algorithms. The basic multiply and surrender strategy consists in replacing the problem at hand by two or more subproblems, each slightly simpler than the original, and continue multiplying subproblems and subsubproblems recursively in this fashion as long as possible. At some point the subproblems will all become so simple that their solution can no longer be postponed, and we will have to surrender. Experience shows that, in most cases, by the time this point is reached the total work will be substantially higher than what could have been wasted by a more direct approach.
