Players can visit other civilizations

Hi everyone,

I want to create a PC game where people can build civilizations and see other peoples civilizations, much like Cities XL. But what I can't figure out is what to do if the other player logs off. I still want the first playet to see the second players civilization.

Perhaps the first players PC could take over control of the second players civilization.

What does everyone think?

Why not have the server control offline players civilizations in that case ? (If you allow a players computer to control another players civilization cheaters will be able to cause significant damage)

The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas!
All the city assets should be stored as reference on the server. Then another player just havebto look that city up and you load it properly. You can even implement different models texture packs this way. Or like you suggested let another player take control. But keep in mind that sharing control allows grieving.

So you want to make Sim City?

OK thanks everyone. What if I want to create a large game world with many units?

It would not be a good idea to download all the units in the world to the players computer but I want the player to scroll smoothly across the world without them having to wait for loading. I also do not want something like "Click here to go to Bobs civilization"

Any ideas?
