People who have been installing my game on Windows 8 say it does not install correctly and the game does not run. I currently use the latest version on Inno Setup as the installation tool.
The issue is that I default the install directory to AppData\Local\ and install the files there. On Windows 7 this worked fine. However on Windows 8 this does not seem to install the files correctly possibly due to permissions.
Originally I was installing the game into the "Program Files" directory like most normal applications, however my game constantly adds, removes, and modifies files, and the permissions for some users on Windows 7 machines were not being set correctly in their "Program Files" directory, thus the move to install it in the "AppData\Local" directory where it seems to work for all people playing the game. The files installed in "Program Files" on Windows 7 would not have write/modify permissions on some machines thus the game would not work.
I guess I need to know where I should be installing files so that they can be installed and have the correct permissions? Should I go back to installing them into the "Program Files" directory, and somehow override the permissions within Inno Setup? Of course the game needs to run on Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8.
Thanks for any help.
