Okay, I'll try to do another one of these. I'm not sure how often to do these... I'm thinking maybe 2 a year? One around June/July/August and one around December/January? Do people have any input on when to do these and with what frequency? Note that if I do more, I probably will drop prizes (unless people donate/sponsor it), as I don't have unlimited cash :(

I think something regular would be cool ... like new topic every two month with two deadlines:

- speed deadline (one week after the topic is released?)

- polished game deadline (after the full 2 month?)

No prices would be ok for me. Maybe something rating related would be nice.

Probably the work could be distributed (no judges, just user reviews / ratings / votes). The participation would show if that is too frequently pretty quickly.

Guess it makes sense to point out the discussion about if a dedicated competition forum would be great or not:

The results from judging will be posted... someday. I'm not sure when exactly

I can't speak for the others, but just to ease contestant's minds that judging is proceeding well I can tell you I've done about half of my judging.

I wonder if there is a better way to notify about upcoming competitions.

We Tweeted and posted to Facebook a couple of times before the contest launched, and also used the little announcement feature (the one currently announcing the Sketchfab contest) above the topic listings.  I also added a reminder near the top of our "GDNet Direct" email newsletter.  I'd love to make sure we get the word out to everyone, but I'm not sure what else we could do other than repeating announcements.

Any ideas?

Make a posting at IndieGames.com and TigSource for example.

Some might be interested and a lot of people read there.

Good idea!

Rather than simply making posts which may in some cases be considered unwelcome, I'll be reaching out to administrators in other communities to make sure they're ok with us sharing our contests. smile.png

Anything else we could do within our own community to help spread the word?

Have a unique hashtag on twitter and tumblr would be a good idea. Like #gdjam, #gdnjam or something similar.

Maybe use the name "The Week of Awesome" in some kinda way. #twoaJam, #awsmJam, I don't know.

Not all gamedev.net community contests last a week. I've participated in a 72 hour one, a 24 hour one, and even a 6 hour(!) one, so something that doesn't lock down a specific length of time or type of contest would be good. #gdjam is good. It even rolls of the tongue well (geedee jam).

I promised to write a post-mortem of my game. Although not yet published it sounds like Cornstalks has the final results so I now have no reservations about pointing out the (many) flaws of my game: http://www.gilldave.co.uk/2013/09/my-week-of-awesome-competition-entry-post-mortem/

Sorry it's taking me forever to post these results. I didn't get home until today, which threw off some of my plans, and I'm waiting for one small hiccup to get sorted out and then I'll post these results!

I unfortunately don't have time to make a pretty, well formatted post with all the judging results (I'll do that this evening though, for sure), but I want to quickly take a minute to let the first and second place winners know who they are:

First place in the judging results was No Better than Dinosaurs. Congrats wolferaven, Ecker00, and Thortrillion!

Second place in the judging results was Human Roundup. Congrats Endurion!

huge thanks to everyone who participated and the judges!!!

I enjoyed both of those games - Congratulations to Endurion, Ecker00, wolferaven & Thortrillion!

The screams from the people in Human Roundup were very memorable and funny and the quality of the polish on No Better than Dinosaurs is quite frankly staggering!

Well done all! smile.png

Thank you so much!

Really good effort by everyone including the judges and contestants. It has been such an experience for us and a lot of fun to take part in this contest so thanks :)

Thanks dmatter for the kind words! We worked till the very last minute to polish it.

Human Roundup was good fun! Well done to Endurion :)

The Legend of Raptor: 57.00
DNA Labs: (Unfortunately I was the only one who could get the game to successfully run; I gave it 68)

A HUGE congratulations to everyone who submitted a game. A game in 7 days is no small task! I want to thank everyone who participated (even if you didn't submit a game and only participated in a social way), the judges (Gaiiden, jbadams, and Alpha_ProgDes), GameDev.net for all your support, jbadams for the Spriter prizes, and everyone else who I should be thanking but am forgetting at this moment. This was fun for me, and I hope it was fun for you! Also, thanks for being patient with me (and my occasional delays).

GDNet is rewarding all those who submitted a game with some participation rep points. I gave them this list of participants (who have GDNet accounts); if I missed anyone who should be on here please let me know! The list:
