Indie Games Section - In Progress

I want to keep this low key and share something I'm working on for those who haven't stumbled on it:

This is a screenshot from Danny Green (who already is an accomplished indie developer):

What's new is that our own members will be able to post projects and what's really cool is that we can start to promote more of our own member projects in the screenshot showdown. If they get IOTD it gives a shot for them to get a bit more exposure for their project.

Here's the really new thing (still in development).. this is his project entry so far:

It all stems from a new section called the Indie Corner here:

OH.. and we're also starting to build up an Indie resource library thanks to Stormynature, Cornstalks, and Alpha_ProgDes..

Really glad there's finally a feature for this. When will the Indie Corner be made "public" (as in easy to find on the website)?

That's a good question. I want to build up a selection of projects first just to work on the UI side of things. One of the things I really want is things that are of actual benefit to indie developers. On my TODO list in no particular order:

  • Twitter feed integration as a sort of micro devlog
  • Full RESTful API to access all project data (so you can use the project data anywhere)
  • RSS feeds on all news items
  • Improved "Help Wanted" capabilities so you can recruit people through your project page
  • Combined News feeds that will feed the site home page

Some byproducts of the RESTful API would be integration of stuff like presskit() http://dopresskit.com/ to create instant presskits, share data with other indie game sites, pull your project data for your own website, etc.

But these aren't all necessarily must-have on release features so.. to answer your question, I'm not sure yet.. but probably soon. ;)

Looks good smile.png

Even tho it's not very public (easily visible in the site), can people (as in "me") create projects there yet?

(EDIT: Or will it still be deleted/wiped/rolled back/etc...?)

Yep, projects can be created until it's officially out there. I just started teaching again this past week so things have been a bit hectic but I got a few more things tweaked today based on submitted projects.

I've started testing the Indie corner, seems good so far... but where to submit feedback of the Indie corner?

I will put here while I dont know the correct place so I dont lose the copy/paste smile.png . Feel free to delete the message (or edit) after reading.

1)
After creating the project, I selected the Developer Journal tab and wrote something as a test. It worked (it seems), but it gave me an error message:

Warning: Data missing in classes_like_composite::add in /var/www/gamedev/admin/sources/classes/like/composite.php on line 546 Warning: Relationship ID missing in classes_like_registry::getKey in /var/www/gamedev/admin/sources/classes/like/composite.php on line 143

EDIT: In fact I just realized I had written a Comment, not a Dev Journal entry. It was not clear, I thought it was a developer journal entry, but in fact it was the comment box that always appear at the bottom of the screen (since Dev Journal was empty the Comment box was on top)

2)
I put a couple Youtube links as Additional Videos but I cant see them on the project page.

3)
The "Edit" button is kinda hidden and it seems that it relates to the Comments section below, and not the project info itself. Took me a while to find where to edit.

4)
Since the videos wouldn't show, I put the links to the videos on the About part, and it nicely expanded to an embedded video when viewing the project. The problem is that when I edit, it doesn't convert back to the URL of the video (it shows the embedded video on the edit panel), so when I save the edit the video link is then lost.

5)
I didnt find a way to edit the Help Wanted section. So I'm assuming its not implemented yet.

Awesome :D It's time to move indies away from *cough*PAX*cough**cough*
