Without some context on where the thread was posted, it can be easy to misread what the topic actually concerns, unless you make habit of double-checking the name of the subforum you are in before commenting, which can be tedious and unintuitive if you view a lot of threads.

In short, a thread about a bug in one language can be mistaken for a thread about a bug in a language with similar syntax, and the difference may lie entirely in where the thread was posted. This can easily result in confusion, and unhelpful responses to someone's thread from people that don't know what language they're using.

Which page are you looking at that where the threads don't have the forum listed?

Chiming in with my opinion, I think keeping the box small and compact would be more important than including the area of the site it comes from.

One time, long ago, I was bit by it also when someone posted an in-depth reply to 'For Beginners', and the reply I added was not appropriate for the hand-holding that is expected in the FB section of the site. After that I learned to always check the forum before writing a reply.

I would imagine that the confusion is relatively rare. Sure it may happen on occasion, but probably not enough to justify the clutter.

The little tool popup that appears when you hover over a link just repeats the information already displayed in the box, so perhaps that can be re-purposed to show the forum it was posted in. Assuming that's a thing most people don't have blocked? I know some people find that kinda stuff annoying

I think that's a very reasonable solution, considering others' desire to not increase the size of the box. More to the point, if I know that the subforum is not what I expected, I probably wouldn't have been posting in the first place, so simply having the option to glance at the name of the subforum would be much easier than visiting the page, having to double-check and make sure that I'm in the right place, and if not, navigate back to where I was, and continue on.

I would appreciate the change.
