Hi everyone,

What is your opinion about pixel art? Does it have a place in modern games or is it outdated?

Some pixel games are still very awesome,it depends

Pixel art can be fit into Indie Games best. But It is better to start 2D art in general. This will ensure you know topics like, Pixel art, sketches, Texture drawing etc, you know, 2D stuff.
This, 2D skills will sure have 100% place in modern games.

Pixel Art is 2D art.

The problem is not whether pixelart is outdated or not, but rather whether it's good quality or not. Most indie games using pixelart have horrible pixelart, to be blunt. It's like many developers try to use it as an excuse to avoid having to make good graphics. I guess I can understand if you're just making a free game, but it happens a lot in commercial games too which must be polished in just about every area.

Don't pay much attention to "the hedgehog" in my nick, it's just because "Sik" was already taken =/ By the way, Sik is pronounced like seek, not like sick.

Pixel art allows you to totally define the game look from a certain angle. They allow an amount of detail that might not be possible with 3D models, especially on mobile platforms, or when the limit is reached on PC.

Pixel art tends to be limited to lower resolution. A modern practice is HD 2D games using vector art.

However, the question is a hard one. It's not outdated, but is it still modern?
