This is what i am usng to render my fps weapon type camera
The inverse of the view matrix * translation(0,0,2)
Is this the correct way or is there another way to achieve the effect?

Another option is to render the weapon using a second camera after everything else has been rendered. Then you can clear the depth buffer beforehand to ensure that the model under no circumstances intersects with scene geometry. Also, while physically incorrect, this camera can have a different field of view which can look better sometimes.
