Hello, my name is Mike. I have ideas for video games i'd like to share, but i'm a tad bit worried about sharing them on a forum post. I'd like to work w/ professionals and show them my ideas, I am a huge Alternative History / Futuristic / Fiction writer, and I want to get my name out there, as well as build up a portfolio for myself when I enter the Gaming Universe itself as a "Writer" in the future. Contact me on Skype: cronizone (all lower case) and tell me who you are and why you'd like to talk to me.

As stated on the forum I have nothing to share w/ my ideas, however on Skype I could be an open book for you. smile.png

~ Thanks,

Mike

It's not working that way :)

Let me just point you HERE (and he's a moderator here) for some reality-check advice.

If you can find yourself described in these articles, then maybe you can start asking the right questions.

Yeah, I agree with the above posters: sorry, it doesn't work that way. Anyone actually capable of producing a playable game has abundant sources of ideas available to them, they have no motivation to swipe yours. Professional game developers don't generally hire writers based on portfolios, and if they did hire a staff writer that way you wouldn't be using any of your existing concepts in their game, you'd have to start at the bottom writing item descriptions and dialogue to fit into their already-developed story concept and outline. You're not going to find too many people willing to offer you their help with no offer of reward and asking them to go to the additional effort to seek you out through a different communication medium.

If you really really don't want to share any of your "real" game story ideas, you might at least try making up a new idea for public practice.

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

I think sharing game ideas has real merit.
Even those who are technically capable of producing a game face creative blocks and need inspiration.

I would just change the channel used for sharing the work.

Instead of Skype, you need to build a blog (it's easy and free) where you frequently post game concepts, stories and ideas, and make sure to let developers know about it.
This way you will expose your talent while practicing your craft, without you depending on the interest of others to keep you active and producing stories.
