Hi,

I am wondering if I had developed a game maker how would I go about selling it to a company that would want to either buy/use it or market it to other people who would use it?

Ok that's a bit vague.

Let's assume you have said software already done and patented, in an incorporated business.

Your question, essentially, is how would I market my engine in such a way that companies would have some awareness of the product?

Or is it about how licensing of proprietary software works?

1. how would I go about selling it to a company that would want to either buy/use it
2. or market it to other people who would use it?

1. As orymus said, it's unclear what you're asking. If they want to buy it, you don't have to sell it (just let them make an offer).
2. You make some awesome successful games, and when the press comes calling, you tell them you owe it all to your awesome engine. Then people will knock your door down wanting to buy it.

It sounds like you're talking about finding a publisher.

Game publishers don't usually do that, so, you might need to look more towards publishers of educational material or software.

What's the target market of your game maker? If it's suitable for kids, you may be able to market to schools.

You have to have a specific target market in mind when you develop this software, otherwise it will be very difficult to sell it.

Or, as Tom said, if you're making some amazing modern game engine, showing it off with a product would be the way to go. But I'm assuming that's not what you're trying to do.

If, on the other hand, it's a development tool which works within another engine (Such as Unity, in which case you could sell on the asset store), or solves some current problem in an elegant way that can be used by any engine (some kind of library?), you may be able to market directly to game studios (just call them up or send them a demo).
