Need some feedback on my CV

Hi everybody,

My name is Amit and I'm a software developer from Israel, I've been working as a full time software engineer for the past 3.5 years, the last 1.5 was in developing mobile games for IOS and Android.

I recently started looking for a new job but the Israeli industry is very small and has limited opportunities.

My dream was to start working on a larger scale pc/Console game.

I wanted to start applying for positions in Europe, especially in the UK (for language reasons of course). I currently hold a German citizenship so its legal for me to work in Europe without going through the trouble of getting visas or work permits.

My main problem is that my current CV is written for jobs here in Israel and I thought that I should probably adjust it if I want to apply for game studios in Europe (maybe somehow specify my German passport etc.).

I was hoping if people here that are more experienced could help me by giving me feedback on the current status of my CV.

Any help would be highly appreciated,

Amit Ofer

p.s I don't rule out working in US/Canada also but that would probably make my situation more complicated since the employer would have to help me with work permits.

Thats weird, I recall adding an attachment but now I can't see it, I will fix it

Edit: ok, attached to the original post, I'm sorry, don't know what happened

Anyone please? I could really use the feedback.

I'd look at it, but I do not have Office installed here and cannot easily read .doc files.

Thanks, I added a PDF version to make it easier for people without office.

Looking it over, you only have four lines that even come close to describing what you actually did.

o Game and gaming infrastructure developer for IOS and Android mobile devices.
o Coding in C++/Java/Objective C and using Cocos2d-x game engine.
o Supporting Application developers abroad in the company's own scripting language.
o Military service as an avionics technician, during the last year of service as a "Team leader", a position in which I was
required to head a team of 10 other technicians.

You write that you know all these languages and technologies. All you have demonstrated is that over the past 12 years you spent one year in a minor leadership capacity, and that you spent a year dabbling in "C++/Java/Objective C".

My advice is to rewrite every description with concrete actions you performed, results you accomplished and systems you built, with any exact metrics or measurements you have available.

I agree with frob. I want to see what you've done that is cool and sets you apart, what challenged you, what you are proud of. You should spend more time on that than anything else on the resume.

I think most of your "Character" section is irrelevant, except for perhaps the part that you can legally work in Germany, which is probably useful for some employers to know. But the rest of that they will generally determine on their own and always strikes me as useless fluff.

Thanks you guys, I appreciate the help.

Actually the German passport lets me work in all of europe, maybe it was unclear the way I presented it.

Anyway the last 12 years are not that relevant professionally, Army here in Israel is mandatory and I didn't do anything programming related there, after that I spent 4 years on my diploma so the part that's relevant to the profession is what I did for the past 4 years, I tried to be more specific about my work in the past 18 months since it was game related.

Maybe I should focus more on that and maybe home made projects, which currently I don't have anything new to show.

Is there anything format related that I need to change?

Thanks,

Amit

What you included about the military service was just fine. Israel is one of many countries with mandatory military service. That you were able to manage a team of 10 is a useful skill, don't cut it.

It is the projects after the military service -- or rather, the lack of them.

You attended school but apparently did zero useful projects.

You worked for a year at Elta but reported zero useful projects or any work at all.

You worked for two years at HP and all you say about it is "Java Developer -- server and client side".

At Tabtale you probably worked on something game related. It was probably far more than your nondescript "coding" statement.

Each one of those should have several useful bits of how you developed, what you implemented, and what results you saw. Did you not build any student projects that might be interesting to a game studio? Did you work on anything at all during your year at Elta? At HP working on "server and client side", did you implement any protocols, or speed up performance on anything, or otherwise do anything at all that was interesting and useful? What products did you work on at Tabtale? What components of the project did you have ownership over, or what components filled your days?
