crossbones+ ?

No real or serious stuff here... its just for my own curiosity...

I've so often heard that the only requirement for crossbones+ is 1000 rep.

Apparently it now seems to me this isn't the only route to crossbones+, as I've now seen for the second time at least, members with 102 rep have crossbones+ membership, whereas there are several others over 1000 rep not crossboned

For example the OP of this thread [...] is crossboned but with 102 rep at the time of writing

Just merely for my own curiosity, no real fuss about this, what are the other means to obtain crossbones+? Just a guess -- it seems it can be bought just like GDNet+

can't help being grumpy...

Just need to let some steam out, so my head doesn't explode...

Crossbones was an invite only group with no particular requirements when it was first created. From there a few others opted to join.

Then we started adding anyone with 1,000+ rep. There are still some crossbones members who haven't crossed the 1,000 points yet.

Some old quotes re jbadams post: Crossbones

I could probably do a write-up on it, i'll try to have something by Wednesday or Thursday.

(should i just make a post in this forum, or?)

You can create it here as a draft: http://www.gamedev.net/page/resources/_/technical/game-programming/

As a member of the Crossbones group you will have all the privileges of GDNet+ and will be part of of our movement to turn this site into a huge resource of articles for game developers. The only catch is you have to also finish the article.

If anybody else is willing to jump on board today with one of these topics PM me and I'll add you to this group. If you are a member of this core group you can be part of changing our community for the better forever and helping developers all over the world. Why crossbones? Because pirates are cool.. and they were always outnumbered by much larger forces against them. I figure creating this kind of change won't be easy.. so it fits.

Bloody hell.. that's not right. Looks like I can't cascade promotions like I hoped. So for now it's just Members -> Crossbones+ at 1000 points.

Afaik - Crossbones promotions are a manual promotion process (by a mod or staff) these days and has been for some time. The catch of having earnt 1000 rep points probably not having as much merit in being promoted to the group so much as being seen to be a contributor of value to the site. But if you you think you qualify for the xbones group then speak up or get lost in the crowd.

I was gonna start a thread on this. But since alwaysGrey beat me to it....

So when Crossbones+ was first introduced, it was a "badge" showing that you've contributed positively to the site. Whether by article or marketplace. Now if you get 1000 points, you're now Crossbones. It seems, at least for me, the meaning of Crossbones has diminished. Now that it's point-driven is there any real point to it?

It grants some additional privileges on the site such as the ability to peer-review articles, so yes, there is some point to it.

It also lets you kick/ban others from the chat.

Ha ha @ Josh.

What I meant was that when you got a Crossbones designation it was because you actually contributed to the site. Now, when you get a Crossbones designation, it's because you got enough points. So now the contributors are considered the same as the point-getters. So the meaning of the designation is obviously not the same even though the benefits are.

EDIT: If you're a person who adds (ie. contributor) to the marketplace or articles or something else on the site, you should have a different tag than Crossbones

I hope you guys have fixed that thing regarding the crossbones-to-gdnet+ upgrade bug because it didn't do a thing for me.

Now that you mention it, there is a badge we can (manually) add to users to show this. I've just added two of them to your account for example (which I will revert in five minutes).
I don't think we actually use them though.

That doesn't apply to the specific user that the OP pointed out, who only has 104 points and only joined yesterday, but is Crossbones+.
