I'm both glad and surprised to see that Visual Studio 2015 code be almost identical with the Visual C++ 2005 code that I stick with. But any opinions on how current is the article, are programmers still using Win32, is there no sort of Win64 api?

You might consider a single Form/Window as high as C# application created- and pass its handle to your c++ module to make context of it.
Would you do that by building all the C++ into DLL and then calling that from the C# form?
