Social media, blogging, and such promotion as a new Indie

I'm hoping I could get some advice and feedback on this subject.

I am an indie developer working on my first title.

I understand that "getting my name out there" is important. Especially when I want to launch a kickstarter campaign some time in the future, it really helps if I already have some sort of following; if I already have people interested in my game before I start trying to collect money for it.

But I am unsure how I should go about doing that. I suppose there is no single right answer and I really need to do "what works best for me," but even from that perspective it would help out if I had a better idea of what I could do, what doesn't work, and eventually how to do what I do better.

I have a site for my "company," and I update it seasonally, basically just to show that I am still there and working. I also have a facebook page for my company as well, which I have shared a few things on. I don't have many followers or visitors, but I do have a few.

What got me thinking about this was that I've stumbled across the site for the developer for Brave Earth, (twice now,) and I was looking at their site and realizing that they've done so much to get people interested in their game. Their site has a good handful of blogs posted about the game's development.

I thought... I should do something like that. And then I also thought, would that even be worth my time? I mean, they've already got *some* attention, so when they post content, it can go farther. Whereas I might just look like some blog talking about something no-one has ever heard of.

And so I wonder, what could I do? What might be a good way to promote my game while in development, that will actually work for me?

This is a marketing question, so I'm moving it to Business.

I thought I did post it in Business...
That might explain why I have had so few replies.

I think this is key, and you absolutely should. Whether it will work out in the end for you is not something anyone can tell you now. But you have to
frequently update with real progress to show, and steadily push it on social media.
