ON a non-accelerated video card is it faster to draw 10 quads or one textured quad? Is the answer the same for triangle strips? On a non-acc. renderer, it should be faster to draw 10 quads without texture. Software texmapping is always very slow - and it''s almost never filtered.

In software mode, most likely drawing 10 untextured quads is faster than rendering one textured quad. Same goes for using triangle strips - transforming the verts for 20 triangles will most certainly be faster than the additional memory accesses and interpolations needed to map the texture (especially when using tristrips, cause then the triangles share verts).
