Books for Christmas; Are these a good choice?
Okay, Im breakin down and finally buying some opengl books for christmas to give to myself (I''m so nice)
Anyway, I was thinking of the following:
1. A gift box including the 3/e Programming Guide and 3/e Reference Manual
2. The OpenGL SuperBible
3. The OpenGL Game Programming Book (the one by gamedev)
Good choice? I want to get the most out of my money by purchasing them, so if any of these arent worth their money, please tell me.
thanks!
Those are just about the only OpenGL books that exist, or at least the only ones that are useful.
I would say that you are getting a decent deal. Buy them off of Amazon.com though. They have alot of good deals, they may have one where you buy the Red Book and get the Blue Book for half price.
Good Luck with them.

You might want to consider getting the OpenGL Programming Guide Third Edition by the OpenGL Architecture Review Board. Definitely get the OpenGL Game Programming book. You can download the OpenGL Superbible at http://romka.demonews.com/opengl/doc/index_eng.htm
Those sound good... their are not many books on OpenGL out, but more are on the way, the "OpenGL Game Programming" by Prima Tech is exelent for beginners, after that I would goto the ''blue book'' or "OpenGL SuperBible" (Waite Group) and finall the ''red book'' "OpenGL Programming Guide" (Addision Wesley). I listed those in difficulty of reading ascending. With those three books you will be an OpenGL champ! Hope it helps, have a very merry X-Mas.

BTW: are there OpenGL books out there, that cover the more advanced topics in OGL programming, eg. vertex and pixel shaders, dot3 bumpmapping, BRDF lighting, EMBM and such ? This would be very interesting.
