How can I realize an engine in which objects located between camera and avatar become partially invisible?
I don't want them to disappear completely but e.g. become transparent.

Shoot a ray from your camera towards the avatar and check if it hits any polygons. Do this for each object, and just store if the ray has hit any of its polygons. Then render the objects that were hit as translucent.
