they were piracy devices out at the same time as the SNES which allowed you to store games on floppy disk (i.e. they actually had a physical disk drive and some extra load RAM to replace the cartridge).

I also like the SNES, and would like to develop games for it.
The NES is the system that I grew up with and I have just started to code for it, so far I have one demo that runs in a emu. I completely understand the way you feel about getting code to run on the real thing.
