I did some searching, and it looks pretty negative, but I was just wondering if it is possible to do any kind of development for the PSX2 on the PC? Even just writing some text on the screen!

Must not have done very good research.

There''s a program (sorry, don''t have any URL''s) out there, free for download, that allows you to program for your PS2 by connecting your PC to it with certain models of USB cables. There are compilers, assemblers, disassemblers, and documents devoted to the subject. It''s possible, yes, but you may find it kinda boring. Decide for yourself.

Someone get this guy some links so he can.

Thanks for the info!

Am I right in assuming that it that it is impossible to develop on the PC, then burn to cd-r and have ps2 disc? (not using the usb cable)

Also, does anyone know the links to the assemblers/compilers that the anon poster was talking about?

-unless you burned on dvd and had the mod chip for the playstation 2 (no, don''t get it) there wouldnt be much point.

The linux dev kit is coming out for small devleopers. I think it costs around 250 dollars, its on gamedev somwhere. this has already come out in japan a long time ago. This kit allows you to actually write programs on the ps2, it comes with usb, keyboard, hard disc and programs.

I might get this it sounds good (apart from the cost).

if you wanted to program the ps2 because its easy, its not its got an extramely complicated hardware setup.

The best idea (for fun) would be to get Yabasic (and usb keyboard) which comes on a demo cd and is a form of basic for the ps2.
Some quite good results are possible with it and its easy to use.
