Brushes

I have seen the term "brushes" in source codes, and in various games. Could someone please clarify what "brushes" are, and if it''s not trivial, where I can find more information?

Its a term used in Quake engined games for a solid peice of geometry

Thanks for the info.
I also saw it on Serious Sam 2.
I thought a brush meant a BSP leaf node (ie, a convex subspace). I could be wrong though.

It might do, but the quake engines were the only places Id ever seen it used (never liked serious sam, so never looked into modding it)
