what sort of cpu speed and graphics card do you need to use the stencil buffer with good speed. my amd k6-2 400 mhz with voodoo 3 (realy crap) does seems to work to well

I think the graphics card is more important than CPU.
The card must have a hardware support for stencil buffer
otherwise the rendering will be significantly slower.

Like the other person said... the graphics card is the key component in that issue.
