OpenGL and Bryce
I am looking into doing a top down view RTS game and need to make maps for it. I was wondering if its possible to load and use Bryce to make these kind of maps? e.g. would be Total Annihilation style maps? If so where could I get info on how to load Bryce file formats and also to display them? Thanks

got to http://www.wotsit.org/ and do a search for "obj" files (Wave Front)
then you can just export the terrain file to a wavefront.... and you got it
actualy obj is extreamly easy.... you could probably figure it out just by looking at a file (in notepad)

Ok, I downloaded the trial version of Bryce5 and it saves the terrain to a .br5 file extension I think. So my question is if one buys a registered version of Bryce5 will it let you export the terrain as a different format? If not I am confused on how one would be able to use Bryce5 to make maps for a game? Thanks

It exports tons of different formats, including .x files, which are very easy to read.
Personally, I don''t even export it. I go to the mesh edit screen, do a printscreen, and paste into photoshop so I can do more fine gained editing there. Then you can just save out as a 8 bit raw file and load the hieght map.
